So I've messed around with sculpey before, but this is my first real figure.
The plan is to have her wearing this:

What I've done after a week (progress is slow):

I've been working on the eyes forever and at some point I'm just going to have to be satisfied. I'm terrified to do the ears and hope I dont screw up the pants cuz that will be a lot of fando wasted. Also, any advice on how to do anime lips? I keep failing.
Thanks for looking!

Unless I am horrible at this kind of thing, Last Exile, yes?
I will be looking forward to this build. Do your best.

Rosie, that's a nice job on sculpting the head and face. I've tried and have been largely unsuccessful in head sculpting. Bodies are easier for me. BTW, you can do any head sculpts for my projects any time (I'm serious, you have a real gift).
My only bit of advice would be to draw out the mouth in pencil, then gradually cut out the mouth giving the typical overbite. If you mess up, you can always patch things back together, so don't be hesitant. The mouth may look better muted or understated. Also, the eyes are a bit wide, but not by much.
I took the liberty of editing your photo to illustrate what I was saying for both the mouth and eyes (no offense intended...)

Thanks a lot for the help! I think you're right about the eyes being too wide. It should actually make them easier to fix instead of completely changing the shape again. Who knew a likeness of an anime character would be so hard? Haha.

I haven't given up! I've actually started over in wax. I got some Fuse from Willow Products and its awesome, though I think I might like a slightly harder wax next time.
Anyways, this is the progress I've made. The head is still a disaster, but it took me weeks to get the first one looking good so I'll just take it slow.

Ah, I was wondering if you were still doing this. Loved the source character ^^
Does the wax melt by accident if the room gets too hot?

No, it doesn't melt. You can comfortably hold it in your hand while sculpting. I have a hot wax pen and keep the wax soft by heating it under a light bulb.

pants!
although, as you can see, i having difficulty with folds. all part of the fun i guess

The pants look good - but they almost appear to be jeans. If you want it to look like your source image, you need to expand the volume of the material before you cut in any folds and details. The sailor pants are fitted around the waist, then flare out towards the ankles, where they are finally gathered in.
Happy sculpting!

Yeah, you're right. I haven't decided about the pants yet. I though I'd try to make them look more like trousers. I think I'll do the other leg like the source image and see which I like better. I'm just kinda playing around. Wax is fun stuff!

pants identity crisis!

Looks like you're running out of room in between the pants? Maybe they would looks better touching each other but I can see that being a concern with having one leg separate. Trousers do sound right if that's still your plan? I have no idea what type of pants are in the drawing.. some sort of sport\navy\slacks with baggy bottoms.. lol no idea.

I've started working on this again after a long break. Still taking it slow. I'm trying quite hard to fight against my natural perfectionism in order to make better progress. This WILL be finished one day. Thanks for looking!

Yep!
By the way. I colored the eyes blue because it helps me see their shape better. I have no idea how the pros get them so symmetrical....

It's lookin' good, finish it, finish it! It looks like the overall shape of the figure is very close to the source pic and that's always good. I've never worked with wax before.
