Yo,
Most peeps know me as Lumraptor so I'll stick with that.
I LIKE HIGHSCHOOL GIRLS AND STUFF!
...............Actually, I'm too old for highschool girls (sob) so I build resin kits of them when I can tear my self away from playing World of Warcraft. Been interested in anime since 1987 and still collect anime stuff, but have slowed down a lot in the last seven years. I have a metal, storage, shelf 7' x 3' x 1.5' full of original garage kits dating back to the early 1980s. I've built about 25 kits so far, and seem to average about 2 -3 kits built a year. Maybe if I win the lottery some day, I'll have more time to build........ (foo)

Hello I'm Arieanna, self proclaimed Battle Angel fanatic
I'm still new to the figure building hobby. so far I've only built 4 kits, 2 of which are to be given away as gifts. Since funding for this new habit of mine are few I've taken up scratch building to fill the void between kits :D You'll see my wip threads for Elf & Zwolf and Alita. There are far too few battle angel kits out there!
but ummm anyway :p I just turned 23 and am a wife and a mother of a 9 month old who keeps me on my toes. hehe Being a mom is my current full-time job ummm... not sure what else to say except I'm going to kidnap Willow and make her a hug slave lol :p

Yo...
Some (all?) of you may know me from the HF forum where I will continue to post about my current projects (see the sig.).
I reside in Stockholm, capitol of Sweden where I live with my fiancée & 2 cats. I have been building kits since I was 5 ranging from air craft, tanks, tin soldiers, historical figures, movie related material and the past 7 years almost exclusively anime/manga related kits (though I don't hesitate undertaking any interesting project).
I'm pretty devoted to the hobby and no kit escapes my hands without some sort of extreme attention and care...

Might as well jump on the wagon as well... =)
As Joa put it, I reside in Stockholm, capitol of Sweden where I live with my fiancé & 2 cats.
My interest in the hobby started about 4 ½ years ago, when I started dating Joa. I didn't get started myself though, until a few years later. So far, my interest is mostly in sculpting (a forum category dedicated to sculpting would be nice?), but we'll see what that develops into.
Other than this hobby, I enjoy making gift cards, watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reading books (Fantasy and Horror), playing video & computer games (adventure, RPG and strategy) and listening to music (some namedropping: Hallucinogen, Juno Reactor, Susumu Hirasawa, X Japan, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode etc etc).
That pretty much sums it up. =)

Hey Joa and, um, "Starhawk"! :D (Don't let Joa's girl Catta find out that he's seeing someone else on the side or there might be trouble!)
Since I regret I signed up on HF with my real life nickname, I figured I'd go for the same nick I use on other forums (Starhawk is from the beginning the name of my RPG characters and I still use it when gaming). I don't mind being addressed as "Catta" though. :)
And... LOL! :D
Willow: My sister was a fan in the '80-ies and as I was born 1980, I grew up having DM played in the background. ;) That's why they're so special to me. Sometimes I wish I was born in the '70-ies instead, that way I wouldn't have had to miss their greatest era.
Glad to have you Starhawk and Joa to GKJ. I've seen your work in the past and I look forward to you both sharring your model skills with us.

So far i've experianced stripping paint with "easy oven cleaner" lots of sanding and puttying, and pinning. Can't wait till I start messing with painting and airbrushing. It's all new to me.

Not much to say about me. I'm a french woman of 25 years old. I've been doing gk for 2 years. I love this hobby and i just want to learn more about it !
Just one thing, i still handbrush all my figures... maybe one day when i'll be rich i can't get an airbrush :)

Welcome to the forum Miaka. It's probably fair to say that we all want to learn more about this hobby. It's very challenging and rewarding.
FWIW I know many people who paint figures with only spray primer and brushes and they get outstanding results. An airbrush is a wonderful tool but it requires a sizable investment and commitment to practice. You can create art without one; it is certainly not a requirement.
You might consider adding oil paints and/or pastels to your bag of tricks if you haven't already. It’s a great way to get smooth fades without the hassle of masking.
The most important thing to remember is to have fun!
Cheers,
Rage

Greets GK'ers
I've been in japanese resin and vinyl since '97ish and built anime styrene kits since I was old enough to slit my fingers wide open with a #11 blade. Some of those old Bandai and Arii kits still haunt my "Model Closet of Death" unfinished but for some bad memories of gauze bandages. I'm always looking for new techniques and hints.
I'm new to most messge boards and I'm looking for a better fit for my interests than the others.
thanks!

Hi all,
Stumbled on to this forum while looking for Fuchikoma kit :)
Don't know why it took me this long to find this.
I used to build kits all the time, but now, I have a wife and two little ones, so I try to snap a kit or two together. Still have a ton... well, at lease a couple hundred pounds of resin kits since the early 90's, anime or otherwise. Maybe I will get to them some day.

Hey Rickdom welcome to the forum. I'm married and have a little girl and I understand exactly what it's like to have to take some time off from the hobby but it's worth it IMO. There's time enough for models and other hobbies.
Glad you made it here and I hope to see more of your work in the future as time permits.
Welcome.
Great to see you here rickdom!:) You probably missed us before because we're still a new forum since we were started last September by a group of dedicated model builders who felt the need for a place that felt friendly and comfortable without getting off the subjects of model building.
So feel free to put you feet up and join us ;) I think you'll like it here.

HI all,
Tom Grossman here. I joined back in March but I've been too busy to post an intro.
I've beena modeler since age 5. I'm now almost 51. Started with the usual military stuff. Got into scifi as well, of course. I've been GK modeling for over 10 years now. I've always been girl-crazy. I started with 25mm gaming minis because that's all I could find. I came across Gremlins in the Garage and Hobby Link Japan and the rest is history.
You can see an meager sampling of my work at www.hummingline.com/toms.html. LIke it says, its not allI've got, just what I have pictures of.
I work in the hobby industry, too.
Looking forward to meeting you all.
Tom
Hi Tom

Hi Dr H,
Thanks for the welcome! Yes, I do a lot of different things. Most of the mainstream stuff I've been doing lately is the result of my position with Hobby Merchandiser. I write the Model Kit Report for them.
Lately, I've been wanting to spend time on some ANA airliners to go with my complete set of Flight Attendant Trading Figures but the other stuff keeps getting in the way.
Looking forward to communing with like minds!

Oh, and how did you rate such a large picture with your profile? I tried to post one that was 180x240 but only 17K and it was rejected for being too large. Not a big deal. Just curious.

Hi all, i'm definately a newcomer. I just learned today that there are these things called garage kits and they're pretty flippin' cool :D . After browsing the site i noticed some really great work on these figures(not that i'm the expert or anything) and i'm not so much interested in painting or sculpting as i am in buying. So, i'll be researching on how to go about doing that, and if anyone would like to give me some advice, that would be great too.
Hi Malfern :)
The first part of building a kit is to buy one so we can definitely help you with that. Two of the company banner links at the bottom of the page are very easy to order production kits from. Hobby Link Japan and Hobby Search. Otherwise Yahoo Japan Auctions is the main source of kits, there is a tutorial on how to use it in the " Buyers Guide" on the forum.
You can learn how to build and paint the kits yourself but if thats not for you then some experienced kit builders offer their commission services for a price.
Arieanna
03-31-2007, 01:21 PM
Welcome! :D
It's not that hard to find good quality kits if you take a little time and look into it. Avoid all the cheap kits on ebay. most of them are horrible recasts (a copy of a copy) that tend to be very brittle and full of flaws.
you can check out Masa's little kit store section too. he has some very nice prices listed on the kits he has listed and some could be very good for a beginner.

I joined up not too long ago and was really excited by the 2007 figure contest. I am looking forward to all the entry photos as I get lots of inspiration from them. I suppose one of my main weaknesses is that I tend to spend more on buying unbuilt kits than paint to paint them with. Anyhow, I hope to have three in the gallery shortly for the contest. I don't always have lots of time to post but I do read the forum. Seems like a great group here and it's certainly great to have others that share the same interest. Thanks for having me.

Hello everyone,
I have been modeling on and off for several years, I enjoy space ships and figure modeling also a few cars every now and then. I have just started returning to the hobby about 11 months ago and am ready to dive back in head first.
In looking around at garage kits "Which was also a new area for me" when I began noticing anime kits which I liked very muchl, I guess since I am a fan of anime as well.
I have had a bit of difficulty being able to order a kit since I can not speak or read japanese, I am hoping to rectify my difficulty finding kits here. I also have alot to learn on painting and bringing a kit to life, This is going to be all new to me. My son of 6 y/o also enjoys modeling with me though we usually stay in cars or easier types of space ships for him.
I have been a member of the Clubhouse for around a year if someone recognizes the name.
Thanks
WarpCore
Hi WarpCore
Getting new kits can be a bit tricky but well worth the effort. The stores with banners at the bottom of the forum sell production kits direct to other countries, while their selection is slowly being replaced by PVC premade models you can still find plenty of kits on Yahoo Japan Auctions and we have a tutorial about how to use them when you don't read Japanese. You can always ask for help from us if you have any questions.
Good luck in your kit hunting ;).

Greetings
KrokoHunter is the name, modeling is the game (Oh my god, that was corny ... :shakeshead: ) .. and actually my name is Niels
I'm a 29years old dane.. lives with my girlfriend, 20 months old daughter and our 2 cats Pip (The danish name for the bird "Tweedy") and Sylvester (You get it :D )
Been building modelkits for roughly 20 years .. and completed less than 20 models I guess .... I'm soooo slow, and have had my share of buildersblock, and daily life kicking in.
My interest for AnimeKits and Mecha started in the late 90's, but subsided again a couple of years after that ..... 2 years ago I sold my small collection of AnimeKits, only to revive the interest to Japanese kit-genres a while ago ... for a year I've focused on Maschinen Krieger ... but lately I've really wanted to try building some Gundam .. and just recently I suddenly got an urge to try and build some Anime-girls again.
Well, actually I haven't finished any girls before this ..... I've only finished a kit of Trunks from DragonBallZ..
ALthough the funds are a bit low at the moment, I hope to get hold on a couple of figurekits very soon ... and hope that I can show some progress shortly after ...... At that, I'll be loaded with questions for tips'n'tricks.
Glad to be here!!!! Love to see all your awesome works!
Välkommen, Niels!

Welcome Doug!
I belong to a historical figure group even though 90% of my work is Anime/Pin-up resin so I can relate to where you are coming from. There’s a lot that one can learn from the historical builders.
Pegaso makes outstanding kits: from 54mm on up. Have you seen any of their 1/8 scale resin figures: they are flawless. The Euro vs. Dollar exchange rate may make the cost of the larger kits sting but they are well worth it.
Please post some images of your work when you get a chance!
Cheers,

Hello, um...
I don't really know what to say so I'll wing it-
I've been really interested in Garage an Resin kits for many years but have never had the finances to actually do it. I own a few of the mass-produced resin models (mostly consisting of Asuka and Rei, my fav so far is the Grimrock Ed. ) but so far that's been about it. I painted pewter figurines for a Star Wars RPG many years ago and also did a fair bit of sculpting through high school.
I can't wait to finally get my first kit and try it out.
Outside that obvious bit I like going to anime cons, playing games (the usual sort of stuff I guess) and am also really into fencing \o/.

Hello to all, didn't know if I should have posted here or created a thread. Anyway, came here for some support for sorta something I want to get into but always contemplated on doing. A little bit about me, I love mecha and anime, I have a collection or model kits and PVC pre-painted kits but since I'm saving up for a motocycle + the license, I gotta conserve me money. I thought if I bought a resin kit and slowly work on it, it'll drive my pvc buying habits down + I smoke less when I'm occupied and focussed on something.
There you go, a little introduction.
Welcome syn13 :) I started off collecting PVC kits myself before getting into garage kits.

I'd like to hope this will be a hobby I can carry for years and also when I get better, compare my work to the mass produced PVC version ;)

Oh thats good to hear, its a shame my last project won't look as good which is a MG Kampfer(Gundam) model kit. Half way though the gluing, priming and sanding, my friend borrowed my glue. There are parts (under the shoulder) where the putty has cracked...
Well atleast with his coming soon garage kit, I have almost all the time in the world.
welcome syn13!
I'm with you with the PVC. Since I'm not good at building GK, I do buy a couple of PVCs, preferably with a 40% off sticker up front :D

Hi
I've been building plamo way back 80s though there was big gap somewhere mid 90s till early 2000 - yep! was busy with setting out whole new life after out of school and all...
I mainly built Gunpla though dabbled few other genres as well...
While building Gunpla I sort of got involved with garage kits side as well and have built few now and then - though wasn't my liking as I had and still have terrible headache after working of the resin parts even with wearing proper mask... Still that doesn't deter me from dabbling resin kits that warranted my attention.
However one area where I've felt lacking in terms of skill level is the figure modelling. I did built few but those were never to my satisfaction and after every attempt I would go back to the Gunpla and built couple to cheer me up~ ^ ^ I even tried the soft vinyl figures but found them to be too much of hassle - maybe the kits I acquired were way too old or something...
Anyhow I found this forum through another one and this looks like great place where I can pick up the tips and skills from other master figure modellers...
You see I have couple of the original full action resin kits of Sakura Hime and Makoto and am dying to build 'em... -__-;;

Dear all,
Call me Tinsan and I am a model fan from Hong Kong. I collect GK but I have little time to build them. Hopefully in near future, I can spare some time from my work and start building them.
A big welcome to dj898 and Tinsan :welcome:

Howdy from the east coast of central Maryland! Have been in the painting and design of automotive parts for years, and have done mostly resin of superheros for a comic book store, but now it's my time to enjoy the figure end of GK kits. Was recomended to here from 'E' member, and am looking for original figure GK kits. Great board, and it's using Vboard what I am use to.

Hey. Altiryoko here. Kinda new. Been on WIP with kits for a year now. If only I could finish one
Hey Altiryoko. Finding time and effort to finish kits is always on peoples minds. But enjoying the hobby with friends makes it all worth it. Glad to have you here!
A big welcome to all the new members! :)
