As some of you know I recently bought a house which meant I was finally able to make a modeling shop more permanent than working in my office at the condo we rented.

My house was built in 1850 so I chose the basement as my model dungeon...literally it has big granite stones for a foundation.

Here is the corner of the basement I built the shop in. I'll need to carpet the floor soon and I don't have much on the tables yet because I'll be clear coating them to protect them from water, paint and what not. I have two 4' duel strip lights with reflectors, one under the cabinet and one on the far wall. There is a 8' duel light with reflector on the right, that light has full spectrum bulbs in it and as soon as I get to the store I'll be switching out the other bulbs for full spectrum also. The thing you see in the far corner is my shooting table for taking model photos, you put a light on each side and underneath since the platform is translucent.

Here is the cabinet where I store my kits....wonder how long until it's full.:p
http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/1/DrShop2.jpg

Here is my Artograph 1530 spray booth, my Iwata hi-line HP-CH and Eclipse HP-CS airbrushes and Iwata Powerjet Compressor.

Last for now is the shelves I setup where I'm putting my modeling supplies and tools for now.
http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/1/DrShop4.jpg

I think I'll need to get some storage under the tables for all of my anime stuff and I'll probably buy a few of those plastic tray units to mount on the wall were I build.
I still have alot to do to get it to where I want and it would be great to see all of the setups you guys/girls use as modeling areas. Maybe I can get some good ideas from you or maybe my setup helped some of you think.

Lol I just finished building it a few hours ago and still need to put finish on the table tops so I can't load it up yet. But give me a week or so it will be plenty messy, even though I'll try to keep this one clean this time ;) .

Man FilmMkr your setup rocks, I like that tool chest and I'm not sure anyone can beat a pro like you in the Photo\Video area ;) .

I just finished doing a second clearcoat on the tables and boy my whole house smells like Spar Urethane, even the top floor lol. I'm venting the basement as much as I can with its two tiny windows without getting it to cold down there.
I'm use to paint fumes but the wife doesn't like it much.

This summer we'll (hopefully ^^) move to a much larger place and I'll finally be able to custoimize my own, first hobby room...

Well my work area is done! I've Spar Urethaned(stinky) the tops, replaced all the light bulbs for daylight ones and setup my work area so I can finally get back to where I left off before I started to get ready to move.:D All I need now is a stool to sit on..suppose I could steal one from work lol.

I don't know about anyone else but I like my AB area HELLA BRIGHT with little to no shadows. I made up this light setup and for once I think the lighting is to my liking. I bought two outside wall lights and mounted them vertically on 4" pvc piping. The lamps are 250watt fluorescent lights so their very very bright but put out very little heat. The best part of them is their color temp is 6500K Daylight which is pure white and perfict for painting or photos, I never liked using lower k bulbs which are to yellow... The lamps cost about $28 each and when I saw that price with that color I grabbed them right away. It cost around another $30 or so for all the pvc for the stands.

Wow, excellent workshops you guys have! Here's mine:

I recently moved and was able to turn one of the rooms in the house into my workshop. Much better than running between my bedroom and the living room to do stuff in the past.

I've negelected this thread long enough :p My new model area is almost ready for public unveiling (waiting on some fixtures) so I thought I'd show the OLD workspace first for those who haven't seen it yet. Yes, it's messy and "well utilized" but it served its purpose well ::wave

Not even close...
I did take some shots today of the in-progress room. Some of the pics are dark and the lighting isn't in place yet. But here goes anyway -

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/worktable.jpg
This is my do-everything table. Because of the limited area - it has to serve as both the assembly and painting table.

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/drawer.jpg
My quick access drawer - most of the miscellaneous items are stored here as well as paints that I use frequently (flesh colors).

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/toolbox.jpg
Since I can't have all my tools on my desk at the same time - I rotate them according to what I'm doing at the moment - I have a separate toolbox for each function - this is my drilling/sanding/pinning box

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/mask.jpg
My Darth Vader respirator :)

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/paintbooth.jpg
Here is the table set up for painting - GSI paint booth and modeling hands/holders from GSI and WAVE.

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/airbrush.jpg
My GSI Linear Compressor L5 and Wave Advance 02 airbrush. Notice the dead sexy, skeleton blue coiled airhose :D

http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/8/wallofdoom.jpg
This is a shot from the model area looking towards my computer. You can see the stray personal effects that somehow migrate into my office - manga, models, cds, books, toys and misc. computer supplies. The shot towards the other side is my huge storage closet - but I can't open the door right now because all the kits are propped up against it from the inside... ::wave

Did a couple things in my modeling area in the last two day.
First I had to pick up a shelving unit I left at my mother in-law's during my last move so I decided to set it up in the dungeon and get my small anime collection out of boxes and onto the shelves. As I was doing this I realized it was getting humid down there and the while everything in the boxes was fine the boxes themselves were starting to smell a bit funny:dry: . So I was off to Lowes after work today to pick up a 70 pint per day electronic Whirlpool Dehumidifier, it wasn't cheap and a bit overkill but when it comes to Japanese collectibles and stable painting conditions I'm sure it will pay for itself in the long run. Now at least it will be more comfortable working down there this summer... hmm now if I can only think of a good way to get ac down there.

Here is where I placed the shelves going into the room:
http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/1/DocAnime2.jpg
Top two shelves are all imported dvd's,books and collectables:
http://www.gkjapan.com/gallery/files/1/DocAnime1.jpg
Bottom two shelves are my U.S. anime dvds and Megami magazines lol:

They're perpendicular to each other, so the computer desk gets the overflow. I haven't had much time to do much work on models in the past couple of months, so it wasn't as bad as the original before picture...

I'm back and I moved into a new house. After battling obesity, lethargy, unpacking, and a general case of the F-its, I'm re-engaging in my hobbies one by one. After airbrushing the smaller details of my High Lift (http://www.tellyourfriends.org/IMG_0446.JPG) I unpacked and organized all my kits and am pretty close to deciding which one should go under the knife.

Wall of kits: conveniently 99% of my recasts and 2/3 of the smaller Gundams didn't survive the move. All my bagged/unboxed event and Y!JA kits reside in the unlabeled cardboard box on the left.
http://www.tellyourfriends.org/DSCN2653.JPG

Work area: there are three incandescent bulbs that light the area. I'll probably replace those with full spectrum bulbs and if that doesn't cut it, I may opt to install some fluorescent tube lighting. Obviously to the left, is the general work area. plenty of space to spread out and spill paint. To the right, more shelving space to house paint supplies and the more obscenely priced articles in my collection. Supplies aside, my environment is relatively complete, sans the spray booth I plan on getting.
