Ok here's my first WIP! Very exciting. She's a 1/6 scale Sakaki made by Carrey. Warning: This WIP is merely the ramblings of a first-time builder!!!

Here are some pictures from the Carrey site:

Ok, so Sakaki is done with the bath. Dr.H told me to use a rubber glove when cleaning her and taking her out of the bath, but I thought "I don't need a rubber glove, I'll be fine. I'm SuperWillow!!!!" Yeah right! It totally dries out your hands and stings if you have any cuts on your hands. My left hand is so dry. No wonder, it is a degreaser (as Secretasianman points out to me). So I will continue to put on moisturizer and try to forget that I ever did that!!!

Well, all of Sakaki's seamlines and pin holes have been puttied. Now I am waiting to sand them. I experimented with two different types of putties. I tried Mr. White Putty and Mr. Dissolved Putty.I definately like Mr. Dissolvedputty better. Now I have to sitback and wait.

Be careful there "Super-Willow". You can get nasty chemical burns from some of the various cleaners on the market. Sorry to hear that the Kool-aide bit you back.

Would love to see some pics and get a brief review of your experiences with each product. (i.e. How did you apply it? how long is the open time? is it more like a putty or a glaze/filler? How does it sand? Is it high V.O.C. etc.) Why did you like Mr. Dissolvedputty better? Sorry to ask so many questions, I'm just a curious noob. I always learn from listening to other people's experiences.

Cheers

Red:

Ask and ye shall receive. First of all, here is a picture of what happened to my hands after using "Purple Power" with no gloves on. I know, it's a bad picture (but do you know how hard it is to take a picture of your own hand???)

Now, here is a picture of the two puttys I tried.

I definately liked the Mr. Dissolved better because it went on easier. It is a premade mixture of Mr. White putty and paint thinner (I believe). The putty is very liquidy and easy to apply with a paint brush. That is how I applied it. Just dipped it in the jar and painted it on the seams. I put it on a little thicker around the pinholes to make sure they got filled. It doesn't take a heck of a long time to dry, and when I experimented with both products a few days ago, it was much much MUCH easier to sand the Mr. Dissolved than it was to sand the Mr. White.

Once the putty is dry I will post more pics!

ROFL: didn't mean a pic of your burned hand. I've done that enough before. I'm way ahead of you with the whole fork/toaster thingie.

It sounds like Mr. Dissolvedputty is kind of like premixed lacquer based putty and thinner. I'll have to give it a try.

LOL! I was actually one step ahead of you and had taken that picture of my hand yesterday morning. Thought it would be fun to share (LOL) but didn't get a chance to put it up until today.

I thought I would give wet sanding a try, since Joa said he does it all the time and he likes it. I really like it too! I helps to keep down the resin dust and to me it seems like you get a smoother sand.

Thanks Joa for your advice!

Lol I stole all of my tools back so I could work on my figures. I belive she's at the pinning stage but it's been pushed back by lesson plans. I'll know she is working on it again when my copper rods and cutters are missing  .

You mean to tell me there's such a thing as life outside of work??? I'd love to work on Sakaki, but haven't had much time to potty let alone work on what I enjoy :(
