Most of the times I put down a maximum for an item, I would win it by a hair.

My last auction went like this:

Item was at 2100, so I put down 4300 as my maximum; and as luck would have it, I found that the 2nd highest bidder was at 4200 after winning the item. What is the deal? Similar situations have happened before in the past, where I'd win with the absolute minimum.

Can sellers actually see your bid maximum? Do they get their friends to bid up to the maximum value?

As with (almost) all online auctions, they use proxy bidding;
If the item starts at ¥1000 and you put ¥5000 as your highest bid, if the only one competing with you puts down ¥3000, you win @ ¥3100. If the one competing you puts down ¥10.000, he still wins @ ¥5100.
So, no ... no one can see your maximum bid.

Oh hell yeah. I love this forum, with the constant help and information that I get.

I just hope I'm lucky enough to win that Rider kit before I have to take extra shifts at work.
