I decided to make a list of store's I've used for buying anime based goods and have had no problems with.

General Anime Goods and Videos:

http://www.animecastle.com/ Based out of NYC, my main source for dvds.
http://www.animenation.com/ Based out of Florida
http://www.animecornerstore.com/ Based out of Virginia
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/Listups/anime/ Based in Japan one of my main sources for region 2 dvds.
http://www.jlist.com/ Based in Japan run by an American, decent variety but lots of adult good...
http://www.animaxis.com/en/index.asp Based in Japan, a really neat site I've bought alot from in the past. They preorder alot of cool anime goods that you see listed on the anime shows websites. I have some stuff preordered right now come to think of it lol.

Mainly Book Related:

http://www.akadotretail.com/ Based out of California some nice hard to find books.
http://www.animegamersusa.com/ Based in California
http://www.animebooks.com/ Based in California my main source for art books.

There are a few more stores that have come and gone and those I don't think are to great but feel free to add to this list with stores you've actually used.

Hmm I think the last book I got from Anime Books was wrapped in bubble wrap then put inside of a USPS soft envelope then put in a USPS box.
It's a little different each time but considering the books came from Japan then ship to California then ship out to me on the east cost and I've never received one with a scratch or damaged corner before, I've been pretty happy. Assuming the books arrived at their warehouse safely then that is the way you'll receive it.

Oh I forgot to add another link.. Animaxis I put in on the list.

Hey thanks for the links!
I actually got to go visit akadot.com today and was blown away! Did you know that akadot and digital manga publishing are the same? They publish Robot. It was good fun and I got to buy a few things there.

It's a pretty great site for referencing books too.
