View Full Version : How to tease Masa ...

Last Tuesday (22nd), I woke up at 4:30 to team up with my lil' brother (7 years younger than me) who's hobby is fishing in a very serious way...

We were supposed to go out in the Stockholm archipelago with a friend of his who's a fishing guide. It so turned out he'd developed his interest towards building and painting his own baits. He even use the same airbrush and paints as I do ::thumb

The weather could've been better from a day off point of view, but for Pike Perch fishing; the game for the day, it was perfect. Cloudy yet not too cold and a little windy.
First we went fishing for Baltic herring to use for live bait. These suckers bite for anything, so you basically just attach 4 or 5 hooks to the line, add a sinker and pull away. 30+ within 5 minutes and we were set for the game.

One hook goes just behind the gills and the other one under the spine.
This way you're sure to get the predator once it attacks :ninja:
A floater keeps the bait fish at a fixed depth, and while waiting for it to disappear beneath the surface, we had other rods with regular baits (jigs) to keep us busy =)

All in all it was a very nice day.
I caught 3 of our main prey + 3 pikes. My brother wasn't as lucky, but he was immensely glad for me as this was my first pike perch trip (+ he got to keep one of my catches ;) ).

This was my (as you can see by the smile) first catch which I kept, on live bait:

The second one caught by jig (according to our guide it was an impressive landing as those hooks rarely grabs enough at the incredibly stiff cartilage in their mouths):

The third one I let go. The pikes were pretty lame so we took no pics of those.
The one really funny thing that happened during the day was that the guide caught an eel on live bait.
And .. it IS as slippery and slimey as you may have imagined... *shrug*

I got home 11:30 in the pm .. quite exhausted and after a quick bath went straight to bed.

Last night I prepared some dead 5.5 pound fish for dinner...
