A few of our members have decided to have some fun and start an online game together.
After looking at all of the good online games we chose to go with Neverwinter Nights RPG (role playing game). It's a good game based on the AD&D series(advaced dungons & dragons).
We chose to buy the Platinum version which contains the two expansion packs, Shadows of Undertide and Hordes of the Underdark.
I started this thread so that members interested in the game can ask questions and so that those of us playing can go over choosing characters and such.

This is the games web site: http://nwn.bioware.com/

If your interested in making a custom portrait( your characters picture ). Here is the dirrections on how to do it. http://nwn.bioware.com/builders/portraits.html and if your looking for a good image to edit here is a good gallery colletion with the top fantasy artists. http://members.fortunecity.com/mrmagoo/gallery.html http://www.fantasygallery.net/

These are the character classes we need to choose from with the recommended races. Nothing definite yet - just trying to get an idea of what everyone wants to play. Here is the list:

Barbarian (Human, Half-Orc)
Bard (Human, Half-Elf, Elf)
Cleric (Any) Arieanna
Druid (Human, Half-Elf, Elf) Mihochan
Fighter (Any) Secretasianman
Monk (Any)
Paladin (Human, Half-Elf, Dwarf) Szefan_gaming
Ranger (Human, Half-Elf, Elf)
Rogue (Halfling, Gnome, Human) Nightengale5385
Sorcerer (Human, Half-Elf, Halfling) Masa
Wizard (Elf, Gnome, Human) Doc

I'm pretty much set on being a Sorceror myself :D

I'm leaning towards the Elf or Human Wizard but I could go for a Cleric because we will need one.

since i don't have my book with me i can't list the actual classes but there are extra classs that came with the expansions. they have certain pre-requisits that you have to achieve before you can then switch to the class. for instance you start as a paladin but become an evil alignment you can turn into a dark paladin character.

Yay!! NWN!!! I need to install it again... It's a good game that didn't let me down (like Diablo 2 did...). Somehow, I tend to play a chaotic neutral fighter or fighter/thief. Perhaps I should try some new class.

I'd love to join, but considering we're so off what with the different time zones, I'll be satisfied hearing your stories of your adventures together. :p

i think we had been toying with the idea of setting one night a week aside for playing that way more people should be able to plan around it. you might be able to get some play time in with everyone =^.^=

Sorry, I don't know from online games or D&D, so I'll just sit on the sidelines with some popcorn and a coke.

Well now... Should it be, say, one day (night for me) a week, I should be able to make it. As long as I can get it to work with my job schedule (meaning I wouldn't have to work the next day), everything should be fine.

I downloaded the demo, made my character... and proceeded to get trounced by little goblins  After repeatedly getting waxed and restarting a few times, I finally figured out how to hot-key all the spells and everything went smoothly after that. I cruised out of the academy with a level 3 sorcerer :D Just wondering how the rest of you fared?

I was just playing the demo  . I'm still figuring out a few of the controls but I'm ready for the real adventure ;)

The academy demo is a good way to get use to the game and get a 3rd level character ready ;) . I enjoyed it and only died once in the begining before I got the hang of my wizard.

I died twice in the beginning right after the action started... walked out into the hall, killed one goblin, then got hacked to pieces ^^;; Restarted from a prior save point, did the same thing... FINALLY figured out the controls and everything was fine after that :D

oh... and... the first time I died... wasn't even a fight... I opened up a door in the "Rogue Training Room" and it was booby-trapped

Dr.H

Lol thats where I died also. Then after loading my saved game I disarmed the trap and found a key in a treasure chest behind the door...which was useless for a wizard lol.

I just recieved my game in the mail today. I suggest that if you have started a game with the demo that you rebuild your character with the full version because some of the selections are different.

Thanks for the info. I replayed the demo with a human fighter this morning just for fun - and unlike my sorcerer... I didn't get touched... once... it was like taking a stroll through the park on a breezy spring day. I didn't have to use a single potion and rested only once so Pavel could get some hp back

Well the Dr and I were messing around quite a while last night trying to figure out how to get a server going for our multiplayer game last night. I figured we'd better make sure we could get it to work or our first actual game night was going to be screwed. lol

After a lot of issues and only partial successes we finally gave up for the night and went to bed. Doc called the NWN support today and they helped him out so we finally got it figured out and working.

Yay!

now soon as everyone gets their copies the fun can begin

Time to install the game, I've been having some issues with the computer when playing Warcraft 3 and have also tried a couple of other games as well. Either the game freezes on me or the game simply crashes. I'll have to try if NWN will work. If it doesn't, I'm definately out of this online gaming for good.

Yeah I'm so ready to go . I have recieved both my game and my new Sennheiser PC165 Gaming headset. Tried out the demo with a Paladin and a Wizard last night. The Paladin was a wrecking machine but I died a few times with the Wizard because I totally ignored my HP. Frigging glass cannon. I was fine after I started letting the NPC tank for me, though. I don't care if he died. :D

Good game, will be better playing with friends. Count me in. :D

If by chance you haven't bought it yet, this week the Platinum Edition is $29.99 for Reward Zone members at Best Buy. The Kingmaker expansion will be $9.99 on Thursday, again cheaper for RZ members. Otherwise, $40 and $20, respectively. There is the Diamond Edition coming out mid-October that includes the latest expansion but who wants to wait a month? :p

Masa

Nice to have you aboard Sze! Can we put you down for a paladin? We really could use some more muscle :D

szefan

90% certain I'll play a Paladin. Or a Cleric. Or a multiclass Paladin/Cleric. Or something tough that can cast spells. :D

Is everyone else a Wizard or a Thief?

Here's a tip for those that want to play in Windowed mode:

In the nwn.ini file, under [Display Options], change "Fullscreen=1" to "Fullscreen=0" and add the line "AllowWindowedMode=1" right underneath. Also, make sure the game resolution is smaller than your display resolution.

The eagle has landed... I repeat... the eagle has landed... :D

It goes out tomorrow via one day express... so I should have it in hand by Thursday (my time)

Well I just finishes the Hordes of Underdark expansion.

It's definately not tailored to more than 3 people playing it at once.

And the ending is VERY anti-climactic. I was disappointed, though it was a good story over all with characters from the original game and first expansion making appearances.

For those still following our little story... It took a little while to get all the problems worked out.. but we finally got our game going. It was more a test run than anything else, since not all of our team was present.

We really needed our rogue with us, since the one Sze hired got waxed very early in the game ^^;; After getting killed numerous times in multiplayer... I believe we need to rethink our strategy: A level 3 Fighter is not equal to a level 3 Wizard... so our plan of "save a level 3 character right after the Prelude" was not a really good idea for the spellcasting types. I think both Doc and myself need to get to a little bit higher level to be of any use in the multiplayer campaign :p

All in all... it was a blast to play with real teammates and the voice chat rocks :D

Dr.H

Ok the first gaming night finally happened. It was definatly interesting. Took a while to get the voice chat worked out since we found you can't play easly without it and then it was a while before we started to all stay togeather instead of wandering around aimlessly. I think things went well for it being first time and mainly just a test run to work out the bugs. Unfortanatly a couple of our players we unable to play last night due to technical errors but we'll see if things are even better next time. LOL hey maybe I'll even talk less and shoot my spells in the right place ;) well you never know.
