View Full Version : Repainting a kit. From half paint to the start point help.
Some time ago I started painting a Rey Ayanami kit. It was long before I bought the airbrush compressor, so I started handbrushing it.
As Rei plugsuit it's very smooth, I finally abandoned the kit half painted because bad looking results with handbrush.
Now I want to start it again, but I need to take out the paint and primer coats. What's the best solution? Sanding all the parts will be a really hard and painful job. Drown a kit in a generic "antipaint" liquid might be dangerous for resin (corrosion?) or will take away all the preparation (fills and putty additions).
So what's your advice? Any member had to do this?
Thanks!

I had always used over cleaner for striping paint off figures before I switched to using Mr. Paint Remover. Just spray the parts and leave it in a ziploc bag overnight and all the paint/primer should scub off easy. Some disinfect cleaners like Mr. Clean works well too but you need to soak the parts for a few days.
Hi,
I've been looking for Mr. Paint Remover and Mr. Clean and I can't find in any shop selling overseas. I'll have to find a substitutive in my country.
Call me stupid, but I don't know exactly what is meant by "cleaner". If I'm right, suppose it's a toxic liquid used for example, when you have a painted wooden outside door, that's peeling off and you use it to take away the paint and residues. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.
I'll buy this ("decapante" it's called in Spanish), but I want to be sure if it's the right product. This is really toxic and dangerous.
Thanks.
BTW: Do you have your avatar image in big resolution? :D

Good day for all. (i did not post here for a loooong time ^^U)
Well , first to all, the solution may depends of the kind of paint that you use. In my case is acrylic paint ("Model Color" and "Citadel - in the past i had an army of citadel miniatures ... but i preffer bigger figures xD- ").
In the past i wanted to repaint some figures and i used alcohol and a toothbrush to remove the paint its a so hard job to remove ALL , but the most important paint came out with this method ._. . Aswell, alcohol dries so quick and it did not affect the resin kits i have in any way.
i hope this info will be usefull for you!

I bought two bottles of Cody Cleaner from Titan, (an spanish paint manufacturer) and poured them into a plastic box and then submerged the resin figure for a week , I got rid of the acrilyc paint, the Mr. Base White and the primer!.

hello, first time poster !!
i find that nitromorse works ok as long as you don'r leave the resin in for ages. if its a pvc kit i wouldn't recomend it as it tends to melt the pvc.
i have been working on a kasumi doa kit i had a few years back. Just removed the acrylic paint last night. shame it's still covered in 2pac filler.
