WIP - KKS Berserk EVA-01

Anoher commission, this time EVA-01 gone Berserk for the first time when fighting Sachiel.





The kit is fairly large making it close to 1/3 had it been a figure kit:

The Volk's Amazon is a clean cut 1/4 kit, and that's Sachiel's mutilated arm in EVA-01's hand right there...



I will be doing some mods on this one.
For one, the mouth area is empty, so I sculpted in tongue and soft palate.






I also emptied out the right eye socket + added a few cracks to the armor after the blasts from Sachiel's arm cannon:

And.. I was kind of wondering how the base for this one is coming along ... ^^
That's one of the reasons it's been put on hold for so long (begun it last fall).

Yeah that base has been something.. we had no Walnut at all none and the only way to get some was from a job or to buy a whole board, it's over $5 per foot for just a 3/4" thick board and every job I've done has been either oak or cherry. We do have a walnut job coming up where we have to frame an arced door in walnut so I'll see if I can get some.

There is one other option.. possible. A few months ago a guy that use to work for a piano factory gave us some scrap wood, mostly thin strips. One piece looked like a dirty thick board of rosewood until I decided to cut into it to see exactly what this 2" thick by maybe 6" wide board was. I cut a slice off the end to a wood smell I've never encountered and a much darker wood than it looked like from the outside. Turns out it looks like a piece of solid Ebony that they used to make piano keys out of! We need to talk about sizes again so I can see what I can do.

I do feel bad about it taking what over a year lol? After this one I think that's it for me for a while on bases until I can be sure I can complete them in a timely fashion again.

And please don't threaten to stop doing my bases. I love what you do with them and I would trust noone else with them.

Simple core of brass wire which I trimmed after this shot was taken:

The nails/claws will be tuned once the epoxy has set, and I'll add quite deep *claw* marks to the base for her left hand.

The left arm is glued in place while the legs are dry mounted with the massive pins holding them in place.
This kit weighs a LOT.

You could probably go even deeper with the gouges - an EVA gone "Beserky" probably wouldn't lightly scratch the surface

Pinning this beast is not a task I'd like to do again... ^^
She's front heavy too (and I've not even put the left shoulder pad in place).




Yesterday night I ordered some Gundam metal thrusters, verniers and odds and ends for super detailing her.

*GASP*
Yes, Masa .. I am going to use Gundam parts on an Evangelion kit.
So sue me.

Until those arrive I'll be busy starting up another kit as I am now finished with the prep work so far.
