WIP - Commisioned Headlong berserk armor kit

Long ago, before me'n Catta decided to move, I got this commision from a member at the Skullknight Berserk forum. Back then I was not finished with the Zodd kit I was working on, so it was put on the shelf in the meantime.

The first thing I did though was deciding on a base, as I knew Todd was dying to another one for me

Here's some copy/paste work from the WIP thread I begun at Skullknight back then:



I made up this concept pic of what the brand will look like on the wooden base:



and the base in total will be something like this...



Wooden oval with a cracked rock formation on which Guts will be standing.
The wooden edge will be profiled in a suitable style (not yet determined) and the rocks will be cast in plaster from Woodland Scenics *natural rock* molds.

Well, I guss we're now officially *moved in* as I for the first time sat down in my new and improved hobby room...

My very good friend Håkan (Crea here at GKJ) came over for an evening filled with plastic women, Guts and sharp knives:

Ok, so when I was asked to do this kit (which is a recast I quite recently noticed...) I debated wether I could alter the pose a bit as I quite frankly think it is a little too "stiff" out of the box:


Thanks Derek for lending me the pic. Nope, I didn't ask but I know you'd approve...

So, after some doodling with the parts...


..I made some cuts and fixed the arms at slightly more dramatic angles:



He's only dry mounted now and about half way through the prep work.

Ahhh, good - the Swedish master returns! Dang, dude, it sure seemed to take a long time for you to sell your old place, get moved in to the new one, get your modeling lair set up, and get back to the bench! How does it feel to be back in the saddle?

After having gotten the kit builder blood flowing with my Evangelion Unit 01 build up, I'm back on track with Guts:


Made the basic layout for the placement on the base and pinned him securely for priming later today:



And here's a neat lil' turnaround of that:

Ok, so I had to dig about 5-6 pages back to find this thread....






Humbrol polished steel applied to the flat black figure, then polished:




I totally forgot to take pics during the painting process, but here is where I finished tonight:







Left to do; finish the flames + some weathering on the base and figure + fixing details I may have overlooked.

More volume to the flames:



The gel cures totally transparent and will then receive multiple layers of transparent reds, yellows and oranges (sans peel )

After the flames were built up with more gel medium + painted:



The top gel coat hasn't dried completely which gives the slightly whitish appearance at the bottom of the flames... ^^

He's basically done.

As usual I will find things to add paint wise in the days to come, but for now I like to think of the figure as done.
